RESUMEN
El presente estudio de tipo descriptivo y enfoque mixto se llevó a cabo en el Salto del Tembey en el distrito de Yatytay, Itapúa. El objetivo general ha sido el de caracterizar el Salto como recurso turístico en el distrito. Las técnicas y método de recolección de datos han sido la observación directa, registros fotográficos, la encuesta, imágenes satelitales y cartográficas de la zona. El Salto del Tembey como recurso turístico presenta las siguientes características: comprende un radio de mil quinientos metros aproximadamente. El mayor atractivo del área constituye el salto en sí. El lugar reúne todas las características para una explotación racional del turismo con algunos problemas que podrían ser solucionados con una buena gestión ambiental. Posee infraestructura para el turismo aunque en mal estado. El suelo es de origen basáltico, con paisajes de lomadas, la cobertura boscosa ocupa casi toda el área del salto. El cauce hídrico no posee el ancho mínimo de protección boscosa requerido y en días de sequia el agua presenta un aspecto visual claro natural, sin contaminación aparente o turbidez. Las principales actividades antrópicas provienen del sector agrario y la quema de residuos sólidos es la práctica más utilizada por los pobladores. Los problemas más importantes detectados constituyen una chanchería, así mismo la falta de relleno sanitario y la erosión. La población es favorable a colaborar en el mantenimiento del recurso y su percepción del cuidado del medio ambiente del lugar es de “poco cuidado”. Los datos obtenidos a través de este diagnóstico ambiental podrían servir como referentes para una mejor gestión ambiental del lugar considerando que el recurso es muy frecuentado por turistas.

Abstract
The present study of descriptive type and mixed approach was carried out in Salto del Tembey in the district of Yatytay, Itapúa. The general objective has been to characterize the waterfall as a tourist resource in the district. The techniques and method of data collection have been the following: direct observation, photographic records, survey, satellite and cartographic images of the area. The Waterfall Tembey as a tourist resource has the following characteristics: it includes radius of approximately 1,500 meters. The biggest attraction of the area is the waterfall itself. The place has all the characteristics for a rational exploitation of tourism with some problems that could be solved with a good environmental management. It has infrastructure for tourism although in poor conditions. The soil is of basaltic origin, with landscapes of hills, the forest cover occupies almost the whole area of the waterfall. The river banks does not have the minimum width of required as a wooded protection and in drought days the water presents a natural clear visual aspect, without apparent contamination or turbidity. The main anthropic activities come from the agricultural sector and the burning of solid waste which is the practice most used by the settlers. The most important problems detected constitute a pig farm, as well as the lack of landfill and the soil erosion. The population is favorable to collaborate in the maintenance of the resource and their perception of the place´s environment care is of “careless”. The data obtained through this environmental diagnosis could serve as references for a better environmental management of the place, considering that the resource is very frequented by tourists.
