Abstract
Agriculture in Paraguay is mainly depending of rainfull for water supply source, whose annual distribution is not uniform, therefore it is necessary to generate others alternatives to provide water and ensure crop production. It has been shown that potassium polyacrylate can be an effective water retainer for annual crops, but requires assessments of soil and climatic conditions you intend to use. In the town of Puerto Triunfo, Natalio district, department of Itapúa, Paraguay, an experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the performance of corn with increasing dose variations of potassium polyacrylate on water deficiency conditions by reducing 20% of precipitation. The experimental design used was randomized complete block with 5 treatments and 5 replicates. Treatments were potassium polyacrylate 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 kg/ha applied in furrow. Precipitation was regulated through crop development under clear plastic indoor. The variables evaluated were plant height, ear height, stem diameter, 100-grain weight and yield in kg/ha. No significant differences for plant height, ear height and stem diameter variables. For 100-grain weight and yield in kg/ha, significant difference was obtained by regression adjusting to an increasing linear trend with increasing dose of potassium polyacrylate.
